WE UNCOVER PURPOSE

Without a purpose, it’s easy to pursue things that you ‘think’ you should be doing.  For most of us, our lives are not perfectly clear.  Many of us struggle with answering questions like ‘what do I want’, ‘what’s my purpose’.

In the words of Margie Warrell, Author of “Brave”:

“Knowing your why is an important first step in figuring out how to achieve the goals that excite you and create a life you enjoy living (versus merely surviving!). Indeed, only when you know your ‘why’ will you find the courage to take the risks needed to get ahead, stay motivated when the chips are down, and move your life onto an entirely new, more challenging, and more rewarding trajectory.”

OUR COLLECTIVE PURPOSE

Here at Priority Purpose we believe we have a collective purpose.

To be the BEST for the world

NOT to be the best in the world.  This collective purpose is the foundation for our own individual and organisational purpose journeys.  A collective purpose binds us together to make the world a better place for all.

Einstein Purpose Quote

WHAT IS PURPOSE?

A sense of purpose is a deep understanding of the reasons behind our efforts and a desire to pour in more time and energy because that purpose resonates with the impact we’d like to make on the world.

Purpose has many myths.  It is not a list of education, experience, and skills you’ve gathered in your life.  Purpose is definitely not some jargon-filled catchphrase.  It should be specific and personal, resonating with you and you alone.  It doesn’t have to be aspirational or cause-based.  And it’s not what you think it should be.  It’s who you can’t help being.

Purpose lifts us at the end of the day beyond the tasks we have accomplished and the goals we have achieved to the belief that we have not just added value, but we’ve achieved something of significance in the pursuit of something greater.

Mahatma Gandhi Purpose Quote

WHY IS PURPOSE IMPORTANT?

Purpose opens opportunities.  This information can awaken us to define goals and ideals that are personally meaningful and reach beyond ourselves in some way to progressively define our existence.

Purpose does not have specific definitions or boundaries.  Whether we experience a sense of purpose as a volunteer, receptionist, carpenter, teacher, maintenance worker, cleaner, parent or doctor it does not matter.  It is having a sense of purpose that matters.

Purpose is also good for our health.  Having a purpose – whether small or large, whether we reach our goals or continue to strive for it – informs our existence in important ways that may impact physical and mental health and overall wellbeing.  Having purpose in life helps reframe stressful situations to deal with them more productively, facilitating recovery from stress and trauma.

Whether you are an individual or an organisation when you show up with purpose you will experience more meaning in your life and a deeper connection with yourself and your community.
